Technical safety as a competitive factor: Austria's only TÜV records growth in staff and revenue

The Testing, Inspection and Certification business, or "TIC", is concerned with technical safety and security as a "people business". In 1996, TÜV AUSTRIA inspired Francesco Bestagno, most recently a member of the management board, partner and creative director of the Viennese agency Demner, Merlicek & Bergmann, with this orientation. Bestagno created a logo for his client that does justice to this self-image: "Not out of a trend, but dynamic but also modern. I then wanted to top that as well." Pleased that "his" checkmark radiates endurance and dynamism unchanged today after 25 years, the assignment carries great personal significance for Bestagno: "TÜV AUSTRIA was the cornerstone for everything else I then did at the agency." To mark the 25th anniversary of the distinctive logo with the red checkmark , the TÜV AUSTRIA Group, founded in 1872, is publishing its 2020 annual report and laying the foundation for further growth as a service provider and attractive employer in the digital age.
Living the future: New infrastructures for new scales and methods.
TÜV AUSTRIA was the only TÜV to record revenue and employee growth in the crisis year 2020. All industries needed support, which was provided by the Austrian group's digitization strategy and the efforts of its more than 2,000 experts. The TÜV AUSTRIA Annual Report 2020 is now dedicated to the challenges of the future: The next expansion stage of the Technology & Innovation Center in Vienna positions TÜV AUSTRIA optimally as an internationally active group of companies, also in the area of research and development, explains TÜV AUSTRIA CEO Dr. Stefan Haas: "In Vienna-Inzersdorf, state-of-the-art testing halls and laboratories are being built for the areas of automotive and e-mobility, materials technology, environmental technology and digital testing services. In July, our integrated infrastructure will start operations." Haas adds that TÜV AUSTRIA's ongoing M&A activities are predicated on this expansion: in 2020 alone, the corporate group grew by fourteen companies. "Connecting Technology" is what TÜV AUSTRIA calls the vertical integration of its solutions and platforms, which connects a wide variety of technologies, cultures and experiences internationally.
Innovations, research and high potentials
The TÜV AUSTRIA Annual Report 2020 also highlights advanced initiatives such as the TÜV AUSTRIA #SafeSecLab, a joint venture with Vienna University of Technology. Nine doctoral students are researching the future of technical safety. With Professor Sepp Hochreiter from Johannes Kepler University in Linz, TÜV AUSTRIA created the first certification scheme for artificial intelligence, which developers of AI applications are already using.
