This project at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University aims at the factors which can have an influence on the trust of users in technical components. The corresponding studies in the project refer to smartphone products from the project partner Huawei and here in particular to the authorization system in the EMUI operating system. The team around Professor Lo Iacono is investigating various technical design aspects that cause an increased trust or even a loss of trust in modern technologies among end users. For this purpose, analytical investigations and empirical studies are carried out. The goal is to develop concrete improvements for the authorization management of EMUI, which communicate a secure handling of user data in a user-friendly way and thus enable a higher level of trust in the technology. These findings will then be abstracted into general principles and standards for a trustworthy technology design with corresponding usability.
The applied empirical investigation and the derivation of standard requirements for the intuitive usability of the security requirements of authorization management should increase the trust of the end customer. This is to create a higher acceptance for digitization in order to increase the speed of this transformation.
